This has been a while coming.
My reasons are a bit widespread, and I don’t expect them all to come to fruition here.
But despite being a very early adopter of facebook (late 2005/early 2006), I’m done with it.
I’ll be deleting my account later today (after writing, not after posting–itll be gone by then).
I don’t get the utility from it I used to.
I liked keeping up with distant friends. I liked knowing what was going on.
Now it seems like distant friends only throw text spears across the distance (taking a pretty strong example from the US Congress) . People have opinions. They shout them. And people argue. They take zero thought to understand the other’s side and ignore any reason others may bring to the “discussion.”
The other utility I found was to have a place to sell my extra stuff.
Except I have very little of it now. And Facebook started banning selling eggs.
This is obviously a simple thing and only one example, but it’s such a stupid example of something to ban selling that it seems they are undercutting their own customer base.
So.
I’m done.
I’ll send one way messages to people who I messaged primarily via the platform, and deal with the outcomes.
I don’t expect to have any regrets.
Fwiw, I may owe and apology to my cousin who did something similar 5+ years ago and I was less than charitable about it.
