So if letting go isn’t the answer, what should I do? If letting go only results in a slide in the reverse direction from where I intend to do, what should I do?
Do the work necessary to go forward.
A year ago we were filled with intent and purpose. We felt called to where we were. And in a few months of that, a number of things compounded and overwhelmed me.
A good lesson. You are only as useful as you can sustain. But how do you gain more ability to sustain and to work and serve?
It’s not by letting go. Not for months at a time. A directed rest and quickly back to the struggle.
This is how we make physical progress in strength and stamina. Taking much more off than this physically causes the body to regress, just as letting go for extended periods causes the spirit and mind to regress.
The challenge is momentum is real. Objects (and attitudes) at rest not only tend, but prefer, to stay at rest.
And starting a large weight from rest is hard. It takes effort and consistency to continue to push. And eventually that weight will move.
But taking comfort in letting go and not fighting is no way to move forward appropriately.
