I have been impressed that strong statements no longer are acceptable in public discourse. Saying “this is” must now be couched in “well, I believe this is, and if you don’t agree, you are well within your rights to do so.”
All the statement on both sides of “this is” used to be implied. It was assumed people would disagree, and people wouldn’t get offended by people stating opinion or rhetorically defending it.
Instead we weaken our statements and our language by pandering to others’s insecurities, instead of giving them opportunities to grow.
“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17.
Be a friend. State something, and then discuss differences civilly and grow together.
