At various times in scriptural canon, God or His prophets have commanded His covenant people to essentially “let go, and let God.”
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
Exodus 14: 13-14
14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
“The Lord shall fight for you” and “Fear ye not, stand still.” These lines are hard to balance with other scripture and wisdom which effectively commands: “pray as though it all depends on God, and then go work as though it all depends on you.”
I firmly believe God blesses those who help themselves. God doesn’t desire idle worshipers who do nothing but stand still, awaiting salvation. God blesses those who do.
And so I focus much of my effort on doing.
Jordan and I came to a decision recently (separately) and then together that was based in revelation. It requires a lot of work, especially in areas we know nothing about.
About two weeks ago, we had 30 chickens that we were going to process ourselves. We were going to spend most of a day doing it. And we had 100 more that were 10 weeks away from going through the same process.
As a result of our decision, we decided to sell the 100 chicks. One of the people who bought the chicks said he knew a lady who processed chickens. I got her number and she did the 30 for us.
Which was a godsend. Because it would have taken all day.
As we continue to remodel the house, the basement concrete is one of the biggest obstacles. One of the members of our ward asked about the project the other day and offered to help do the concrete with his concrete crew.
Another godsend.
He’s willing to let us help, to gain experience, but his expertise and extra labor is exactly what I need to ensure it is done right.
It’s not true that every time I’m on the right path, things just align. But it is often the case. And I’m happy when it does. It makes me very, very humble to know that “The Lord shall fight for [me], and [I] shall hold my peace.”
