I’ve spent much of the last few weeks in consistent pain. I was in a car accident that caused a section of my back to react very weirdly, and there has seemed to be no progress.
The PT tried a modality this week whereby they stuck needles into back muscles and then ran electric current through the muscles.
I have been even more seized up that I had been (although we’ll see whether this is progress or not).
As such, I’ve had some time while laying on my back–the only time I sort of get relief–to ponder pain and how it impacts us.
Although my pain is physical, there are many other types of pain that have similar results.
Pain–of any type–has the influence to push me toward omitting things from my life that are difficult.
This is essentially the same as sinning by way of omission.
The pain saps any determination to do hard things, and even saps the desire to do things that are necessary.
Dishes don’t get done when I’m in pain. Scriptures aren’t studied. Goals aren’t achieved. Projects aren’t completed.
So what is the conclusion?
Heal the pain first. Heal the pain, experience and understand the atonement (it applies to both the physical and spiritual pain, btw), and when that is healed, your capacity to accomplish will increase.
Here’s to healing the pain.
