We sold our second car today. It spent most of the time unused in the garage.
We both live within 10 miles of work, which is easy biking distance. (I bike pretty much every day, and she will at some point soon (maybe).)
But the car has been good to us. I bought it for $5000, and we sold it for about $3000 five years later. Aside from insurance and tuneup costs, my $2000 for the five years is worth about $1/day of use, which is pretty good, considering I drove it about 50k miles.
Now that we don’t have to insure it, out insurance cost will go down about $500 per year and we’ll reduce gas costs by about the same amount.
