A bunch of friends from school got together last night. Much better than a HS reunion, btw. All of us were in an intense program together and have been successful since.
Hearing their stories of the last five years was good. Knowing my story stacks up against theirs was validating. (Of course validating is all in how you spin your version.)
Most have been with one or two companies and have done 3-5 roles at those companies. Knowing they are the key to their companies’ successes is cool.
It’s also interesting to see who is most successful–and by which definitions.
The guy with the least aptitude for technical subjects is the one who is leading the largest business.
The most risk-averse among us was his employee #1.
Few of us have changed who we are–at least in group settings.
But many of us have been through personal hells since.
And we’ve come out ok.
